Chest recoil is super important. Make sure the chest goes back up to its anatomical position after each compression. YOU WILL HEAR AND FEEL THE RIBS INDIVIDUALLY POP AND SEPARATE FROM THE STERNUM... that is normal. Continue... Also sing the “Staying Alive” song. It’s the perfect cadence for compressions. Call 911 and place on speaker or get another person to do so and follow dispatch orders until Lehi Fire Department Medics arrive to take over! P.S. Bonus points if you can get the person’s Medical History, possible Allergies, and Meds/last food taken to pass on. Also from Dr. Monroe’s pool safety class: At the pool, consider assigning a “pool watcher”. This person’s only job is to watch the water. Do not engage with your cell phone (time disappears!) or in deep conversation at the pool when you are supervising children. Your job is to keep the kids safe. Many people don’t realize that drowning can happen in seconds/minutes and is often silent - the victim cannot call out for help when drowning. Severe brain damage and even death can occur within minutes. It can be helpful to have a lanyard necklace or physical reminder for the person assigned as “pool watcher” and take turns for about 30 minutes each.
